St. James Episcopal Day School Playground Redesigning an existing urban play space in downtown Baton Rouge, this project features creative allocation of space to provide multiple use zones within a small playground site. The design revolves around a specialized natural turf play lawn, with other active play areas, including climbing structures and passive play spaces around the perimeter. The space includes a circular track for physical education and two outdoor classrooms, one at the flag plaza and one with “toadstool” seats. An outdoor café area and several small intimate spaces are also included. The memorial garden includes a meditative “Christ Space” connected by the flowing water feature creating transition to the “Church” space that its for community gatherings.
